THROUGH WFP RESEARCH AWARDS

The WFP Research Committee, chaired by Prof. Chiara Rafanelli (University of Bologna, Italy), accepts nominations for the following three awards: 

  • Young Investigator Awards, for Trainees, or Early Career Psychotherapists under the age of 40. Awardees (up to 10) will be selected among those submitting poster presentations to the World Congress of Psychotherapy. Awardees will receive a certificate, waived registration at the World Congress of Psychotherapy, an invitation to the Awards Dinner, and partial funding for travel and accommodation.
  • Mid-Career Research Award, for researchers under the age of 55 who have conducted and published important research. The awardee will receive a certificate, waived registration at the World Congress of Psychotherapy, an invitation to the Awards Dinner, and an opportunity to present their research as a plenary session at the World Congress of Psychotherapy. Partial funding for travel and accommodation will be determined by the WFP Board of Directors.
  • Lifetime Distinguished Research Award, for distinguished researchers for lifetime achievements, whose research and publications represent a lifetime of significant achievements. The Awardee will receive a certificate, waived registration at the World Congress for Psychotherapy, and an invitation to the Awards Dinner. Partial funding for travel and accommodation will be determined by the WFP Board of Directors.

Deadlines:

 The deadline for sending the nominations will be the end of the calendar year before the World Congress of Psychotherapy, which takes place every three years. For the 2026 World Congress the deadline will be December 31, 2025. For the 2029 World Congress the deadline will be December 31, 2028.

Award Nominations and Selection Process:

Young Investigator Awards:  The World Congress of Psychotherapy Scientific Committee will form a sub-committee to select 10 outstanding poster submissions. Awardees will be notified with sufficient time in advance before the World Congress of Psychotherapy.

Mid-Career Research Award and Lifetime Distinguished Research Award: Nominations can be made by WFP member societies represented by their officials, by individuals who are members of WFP member societies, and by individual WFP members. A nomination must include: (1) a nomination letter detailing the accomplishments of the researcher, (2) at least one additional letter of recommendation by an academic familiar with the nominee’s work, (3) an updated CV, and (4) a document written by the nominee summarizing his/her work and explaining how it is related to the aims of WFP. All documents shall be sent as Word or PDF documents to the WFP Secretariat and the Research Awards Committee Chair. Awardees will be notified with sufficient time in advance before the World Congress of Psychotherapy.
